1st Productivity Summit  ( Focus- Workplace mental Health )

Productivity is a term that is often expressed in high expectations but it comes with a lot of factors. Time has come to address the BIO – PSYCHO – SOCIAL aspects that affects the employees so as to stimulate the best out of them. This summit intends to bring HR departments, Industrial Psychologists, Heads of Departments from the Government, Parastatals, Private & NGOs, and the public with interest in the field. This summit will tackle issues of Absenteeism, Late Coming, Fake sick offs, frustrations due to lack of progression, conflicts in the workplace and many other challenges met in the workplace. Note the Theme for WORLD MENTAL HEALTH 2017 was “Mental Health in the Workplace “, which is not supposed to be a theme for a year rather it should also be a culture where the emotional & psychological aspects are fully addressed.
Various experts will make deliberations surrounding this issue, dialogues, and way forward.
In the past three years, we had interactions with employees from distinguished sectors and our findings included the following;
*frustration due to lack of progress (reached ceiling of progression)
*I cannot take-offs for counseling
*My colleague lost his/her job due to a mental health condition
* My boss /superior says I hate him or her and even my body language says but as far as i am concerned I have nothing against my boss
and many other

One of the questions that I pose is SINCE EMPLOYEES WORK FROM BETWEEN 0730 – 0500 and as employees they have the same needs of services from other offices as well, WHO & HOW the gap is bridged? On Saturdays, most Government & Parastatal offices are always closed. Is it part of the fake sick offs, late coming & absenteeism to mention a few? Is there an opportunity for ENTREPRENEURS or Government should introduce some ways of
bridging this gap???

TALKING OF REALIZATION OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 2030 (SDGs 2030) we cannot leave productivity behind hence the DRIVERS for this PRODUCTIVITY being the HUMAN RESOURCE need appropriate handling, development & appreciation. How & when do the employees DEBRIEF/offload?? for instance, midwives, teachers, police, and others after duty where do they offload their burdens?
